Address Change Master List

Don't miss a single notification. A complete registry of everyone who needs your new address when you move.

Use an address-change log with organization, effective date and confirmation. USPS forwarding is a temporary safety net; it does not update every sender or cover every kind of mail. Use official sites, not paid lookalikes.

Work through the checklist

Checklist progress0% complete
  • USPS: Submit the appropriate individual/family forwarding request through the official service and complete its identity verification. Save the confirmation and start date.
  • Driver and vehicle records: Use your state’s DMV instructions for license, registration and applicable deadlines; do not assume a nationwide thirty-day rule.
  • Tax records: Use the IRS address-change procedure or Form 8822 as appropriate, plus the separate state/local tax process. Business addresses may require a different form.
  • Employer: Update payroll, benefits and emergency-contact records; confirm the next statement shows the right address.
  • Banks and cards: Update billing and mailing addresses directly through known account portals. Check all joint accounts and cards.
  • Insurance: Tell home, auto, health and other providers about the move; ask how coverage and effective dates change.
  • Utilities: Schedule ending and starting service, confirm account numbers, and retain final meter/billing records where available.
  • Deliveries: Update subscriptions and saved shopping destinations, including default checkout addresses and payment profiles.
  • Care providers: Update doctors, pharmacies, dentists and veterinarians; arrange prescription continuity.
  • Voter records: Follow the election office’s procedure and registration deadline for the new jurisdiction.
  • People and pets: Notify important contacts and update pet microchip registries, licenses and relevant schools.

Check the result and follow up

Check confirmation messages and the next bill or shipment, then keep monitoring the old and new address as appropriate. Record pending requests separately rather than marking them complete on submission. Avoid transmitting account details through unsolicited “moving service” emails.
