Appliance Deep Clean Checklist

Gather the exact model manuals before choosing cleaners or opening covers. Work on one appliance at a time. Use one approved cleaning product at a time; never mix bleach with vinegar or other acids.
Work through the checklist
- Refrigerator: Clean coils only where the manual permits owner access; unplug first and protect water connections. Check operation after reassembly.
- Dryer: Clean the lint screen and assess the full exhaust route to outdoors, not just the short hose. Avoid straining a gas connector; use a service for inaccessible ducts.
- Dishwasher: Clean an owner-serviceable filter as directed, without damaging its mesh. Refit and lock it correctly before running; some systems have maintenance-free filters.
- Washer: Remove debris from gasket and dispenser, use the designated cleaning cycle and approved cleaner, then dry safely. Do not improvise vinegar/bleach combinations.
- Oven: Use the manual’s cleaning method and ventilation instructions. Remove racks only as required and keep pets away from fumes; check any restrictions before self-cleaning.
- Range hood: Wash approved metal grease filters with suitable detergent. Replace charcoal filters rather than assuming they are washable.
- Freezer: Transfer food to safe cold storage, disconnect power and follow defrost instructions. Never chip ice with a sharp tool.
- Coffee maker or kettle: Use the specified descaler and rinse cycles; vinegar is suitable only if permitted for that model.
- Bathroom fan: Turn off the circuit before cleaning the removable cover. Keep moisture out of the motor and arrange service for inaccessible or abnormal operation.

Check the result and follow up
Reinstall every filter and cover, restore power, and run each appliance through the manual’s check. Inspect for leaks, unusual heat, odor or weak airflow. Record the next service interval. Cleaning is incomplete when a problem remains; repeated poor performance needs diagnosis rather than more cleaner.
