Lubricate Sliding Glass Doors

Start with cleaning, then use only the lubricant approved for your patio door. Stiff movement can come from worn or misadjusted rollers, not just a dirty track.

Service the accessible track

1. Identify the door model and read its care instructions. Keep fingers away from the closing edge and do not lift out a heavy glass panel yourself.
2. Vacuum grit from the track and sill. Gently wipe with the approved mild cleaner, then dry.
3. Clear visible drainage openings without driving debris inside. Do not seal them with caulk or lubricant.
4. Apply the manufacturer’s permitted lubricant to the specified moving parts only. Andersen recommends appropriate dry lubrication for many moving parts; that is not permission to coat every sill with oil.
5. Move the panel carefully several times and wipe excess off nearby flooring.

Check the result

The panel should move smoothly and latch securely. If it drags, derails, or still binds, consult the model’s roller-adjustment procedure or arrange service. Cleaning cannot repair a cracked wheel or bent track. Do not remove security or anti-lift hardware to make it slide.

Keep the track clean periodically and investigate recurring water in the sill rather than covering it with more spray.
