Seal Driveway Cracks

Match the repair to the driveway material and crack size. Asphalt filler is not a universal treatment for concrete, a sinking slab, or widespread broken asphalt.

Prepare and fill a suitable crack

1. Identify asphalt or concrete and measure the crack’s width and depth. Check for movement, drainage problems, potholes, or a spreading network of cracks that needs professional assessment.
2. Select a product approved for that material and size. Read its temperature, dry-weather, backing, and cure requirements before opening it.
3. Remove vegetation and loose debris with suitable tools. Clean and dry to the product’s specification; do not just cover dirt.
4. Install backer rod or another support only if the chosen product calls for it. Fill to the specified depth and level, not automatically above the surface.
5. Tool the repair as directed and block traffic until its full traffic-ready cure time. Rain and cold can extend that period.

Check the result

Inspect after curing and after the next rain. The repair should adhere without pooling water or pulling away at the edges. Reopening cracks or settling need an underlying-condition assessment rather than repeated cosmetic filling.
