Sharpen Ego Lawnmower Blades

A mower blade must be sharp, undamaged, balanced, and installed with the exact hardware and torque specified for that mower. The original blade-swap instructions did not explain sharpening and were not safe to generalize across models.

Before you start

Read the mower’s blade-service manual. Remove batteries and safety keys for cordless models; unplug corded models. For gas models, follow spark-plug isolation and fuel/tilting instructions. Wait for all moving parts to stop. Wear gloves, secure the mower, and use a proper torque wrench for reassembly.

Inspect and sharpen

1. Photograph blade and washer orientation. Remove the blade only using the maker’s locking method, socket, and thread direction. Do not assume every bolt is 15 mm or has the same thread.
2. Replace a cracked, bent, or badly worn blade with the correct part. Do not straighten damaged blades.
3. Where owner sharpening is allowed, secure the blade in a vise and preserve its original cutting angle. Remove material evenly; do not create a razor-thin edge.
4. Check balance with the specified method. If one end consistently drops, correct it as the manual directs or have a shop sharpen and balance it.
5. Refit all hardware in the original order and tighten to the exact model torque. Dual-blade systems have additional assembly requirements.

Check the result

Confirm assembly before restoring power. Stop immediately for vibration or abnormal noise. Inspect the next cut for cleaner grass tips. If you cannot verify balance or torque, use a mower service shop.
